Benaam-sa yeh dard thehar kyun nahin jaata,
Jo beet gaya hai woh guzar kyun nahin jaata!

Sab kuch to hai kya dhundhti rehti hain nigahen,
Kya baat hain main waqt pe ghar kyun nahin jaata!

Woh ek hi chehra to nahin saare jahan mein,
Jo door hai woh dil se utar kyun nahin jaata!

Main apni hi uljhi hui rahon ka tamasha
Jaate hai jidhar sab main udhar kyun nahin jaata!

Woh khwab jo barso se na "chehra" na "badan" hain,
Woh khwab hawaon pe bikhar kyon nahin jaata!
