ISLAMABAD: The transmission of Geo News has been blocked in some parts of Karachi, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, Rawlakot, Muzaffarabad, Deepalpur and Sargodha.

The concerned officials have directed the cable operators to place Geo News channel at the tail end, making it difficult for the viewers to watch the channel.

Viewers of Geo News have started making phone calls to Geo’s office, trying to find out reasons for not receiving the transmission.

General Secretary Pakistan Muslim League-Q Mushahid Hussain said Geo News is being punished for airing the truth.

Talking to Geo News, he said the government should not repeat mistakes made in the past.

PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, Tehreek-i-Insaf Chief Imran khan and Senator Babar Ghauri condemned the blocking of Geo News.

Reporters Without Borders has also condemned the action which, it said, has brought back memories of military rule in the country.

Hamid Mir said the government had a plan to block the transmission of three channels including Geo News.

The threat of blocking the channel loomed during the past days and now the action has finally been taken..

Jamali appeals govt to restore Geo’s transmission:
KARACHI: Former caretaker prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali has asked the government to restore transmission of Geo News.

Talking to Geo News, he appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and Information Minister Sherry Rehman not to take steps aimed at stifling the freedom of media.
ANP calls on govt to restore Geo News
ISLAMABAD: Awani National Party (ANP) Secretary Information Zahid Khan has said that ANP strongly condemns the blockage of Geo News in different cities of the country.

Speaking to Geo News here on Friday, he said: “We demand of the government to immediately restore the transmission of Geo News all around the country.”

Khan, however, maintained that Geo News would not be blocked in NWPF.

“We strongly against such orders,” he added.
MQM, JI demand restoration of Geo transmission
KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaat-e-Islami have condemned the blockage of Geo news in different cities of the country.

Talking to Geo news, MQM leader Senator Babar Khan Ghauri said he condemns the blocking of Geo TV. Ghauri said he came to know after reaching Karachi that Geo’s transmission was blocked.

Meanwhile, JI secretary general Munawar Hasan said Geo news was airing the truth therefore its transmission was blocked. He asked the Federal Minster for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman to clarify as to why Geo news transmission was stopped.

He demanded immediate restoration of Geo TV transmission across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has slammed the government for blocking Geo News transmission in various parts of the country.

Speaking to Geo News here on Friday, Imran Khan termed the blocking of Geo News’ transmission an attack on freedom of media.

It may be mentioned here that the transmission of Geo News has been blocked in parts of the twin cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, Rawlakot and Muzaffarabad.
