Computer: Computer is an electric device that takes INPUT from the user, processes it & displays the result on the screen in the form of OUTPUT INPUT: Input is the data that is entered by the user. OUTPUT: The processed form of data is called output. DATA: Raw facts & figures are called DATA. Information: Processed form of data is called information A computer consists of two main things.
Software s/w :
Software is a set of Instructions that tells the computer, what to do. Hardware h/w : The physical part of Computer is called hardware. Hardware tells the computer what to do. Difference Between Software & Hardware Computer Literacy: Computer literacy refers to the knowledge & understanding of computer & its users. ? A person is called computer Literate if he/she understands computer & its applications. Information Technology: Information Technology is the technology that merges computing with high speed communication links (Carry data, Sound & Video) to spread information from One place to another. Communication: Exchange of Ideas is called Communication. Media: Media is used to carry the data. Types of Media: - Bounded or Guided Media.

Bounded Media:
Physical connection is necessary for bounded media (e.g.: Coaxial Cables) Unbounded Media: Physical connection is not necessary for Unbounded Media (e.g.: Infrared, Blue tooth) Components of IT There are two Major components of IT. ? Computers ? Communication Network
