Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd developed a module compatible with the "EnOcean" inter-device wireless communication standard, which is based on EnOcean GmbH's technology.
Murata exhibited it at Techno-Frontier 2011, which took place from July 20 to 22, 2011, in Tokyo. The company aims to commercialize the module in the summer of 2012.
The EnOcean is a wireless communication technology for energy-harvesting devices, and its power consumption is low.
"(According to the group whose goal is to standardize the EnOcean), the number of member companies has been steadily increasing since the group was established in April 2008, and it is now over 200," said Michael Gartz, International Sales Manager of EnOcean.
The volume of the wireless communication module developed by Murata is 1/4 that of EnOcean GmbH's existing product, Murata said. Its dimensions are as small as 13.0 x 8.0 x 2.1mm. Though the price of the module has not been decided yet, the company said that it will be slightly higher than that of a module using the ZigBee standard.
