Lightbulb Understanding Depression

Everyone experiences ups and downs in life. Happiness and sadness are unfortunately a part of one’s life. But when despair and emptiness take hold of you and you’re not able to come out of it, then you probably experiencing depression. Fortunately this can be a temporarily phase, however if feelings of sadness persist, you may need to consider treatment. Some of the tell tale signs of depression are a loss of pleasure in activities you would normally derive happiness from. This includes spending time with family, friends, and significant others. When you're normal routine is interrupted by feelings of exhaustion, and the emptiness you feel inside starts to interfere with both personal and professional pursuits, this overpowering sensation is significant, and must be resolved with proper help of supportive friends and family. Often times reaching out to someone who cares about you for help is the first step towards recovery from depression. Having the knowledge about depressions symptoms, causes, signs and treatment, means you're on your way to feeling happy again.

Knowing About Depression

Sadness and stressful reactions to everyday life is not uncommon. Life’s struggles and setbacks many times bring disappointment along with them. Many people call this struggle "depression", but in general it's just the everyday feeling we all get from difficult cirucmstances. True depression has specific symptoms and features that we will explore.

Some describe depressive symptoms as a feeling of impending doom or like living in a deep dark hole. Depression sufferers do not just feel sad they also feel apathetic, listless, empty, lethargic, and lifeless. However the condition affects someone, normal sadness cannot be called depression. True depression is documented as hindering your ability to study, work, eat, sleep, and enjoy yourself. If one feels hopeless, worthless, and helplessness too intensely and consistently, then little things may help bring some relief.

Although, different people have different types of depression, some symptoms and signs are common. Don’t forget that these symptoms may show due to the normal lows in life, but if the symptoms are strong and linger for a longer time, then there is possibility that you are going through depression. If these signs are apathetic and disabling, then it is time to seek some help.

The common symptoms of depression are feelings of hopeless and helplessness. One has a total negative attitude towards life and nothing seems to improve the situation. One loses interest in the previous hobbies, social activities, pastimes and even sex-life they once enjoyed. A significant change in weight gain or weight loss is also documented in depressive states. One sleeps too much or totally loses his sleep. and are often irritated or restless on very trivial matters. Sometimes suicide seems to be the only escape from the suffering. It is not a warning sign from the person’s side, but he actually is asking for help.
