Default Govt schools await spray

THE Punjab government has yet to ensure anti-dengue spray at all the public sector schools and colleges of the provincial metropolis. Punjab School Education Department and Higher Education Department had launched a special anti-dengue spray campaign on instructions of Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman a couple of days ago.
Official data released by the Punjab government on Thursday showed that fumigation of 33 out of 43 colleges of Lahore has been completed while spray has also been conducted in half of the 1,300 schools of the City.
The minister on Thursday also chaired a meeting in connection with the fumigation drive, which was attended by Secretary Schools, Additional Secretary Higher Education, Director Colleges, EDOs, DEOs and DDEOs. He said 200 private colleges and more than 4,000 private schools of Lahore would also be fumigated. He also directed officials to speed up fumigation drive at schools and colleges.
The meeting was informed that fumigation would be completed in all private schools and colleges in the next 3 to 6 days while separate control rooms have already been set up in Schools and Higher Education departments to monitor the fumigation and other preventive measures against dengue virus in educational institutions.
He further said two million students were studying in different institutions of Lahore, adding we could use them for sensitizing public. He said special attention should also be paid to the cleanliness in the schools along with spray. He said primary enrolment campaign should not be affected due to drive for dengue virus eradication and target of 100 per cent enrolment should be achieved by October 31 at any cost.
