 Ushio Lighting Releases LED Spotlight With High Ra
Ushio Lighting Inc developed an LED spotlight whose general color rendering index (Ra) is as high as 97 and will release it Aug 5, 2011, in Japan. The spotlight, "Cool Spot LED," is targeted at facilities in hotels and halls such as banquet room, wedding room, shop, showroom, etc. Compared with spotlights using halogen lamps, the power consumption and product life of the new spotlight are about 1/9 (when their brightnesses are the same, in comparison with a 250W halogen lamp) and about 10 times (in comparison with a 250W halogen lamp), respectively, Ushio Lighting said.
For the light source of the spotlight, Ushio Lighting employed the "Natural Light LED," which is a white LED made by combining a purple LED chip and red, green and blue fluorescent materials. The Natural Light LED is an original LED of CCS Inc, which deals with LED lighting devices, etc. Among 15 kinds of color rendering indexes (from R1 to R15), the Natural Light LED has high values not only for R1 to R8, which are used to calculate Ra, but for R9 to R15. As a result, it became possible to render natural colors as if objects are exposed to sunlight. The Cool Spot LED uses 18 white LEDs. Its central illuminance is 2,300lx at a distance 1m away from the light emitting surface. Its power consumption and beam angle are 27W and 24°, respectively. The color temperature of the spotlight is 4,000K, but Ushio Lighting will also offer a model whose color temperature is 5,000K. The rated life of the new LED spotlight is 20,000 hours (the time it takes for the total luminous flux to decrease by 30%). It measures 180 (W) x 225.5 (H) x 120mm (D) and weighs 1.1kg. It can be connected to existing dimmer control circuits. |
