Today we can see nomads at the occasional water holes. Derawar is the largest fort of the desert that is part of the chain of forts built to protect the central Asian trade route to India proper. A Rawal Prince built it and later on it was taken over by the Bahawalpur Nawab (Ruler) who rebuilt it with baked bricks brought from Uch Sharif 40 miles away. Derawar Mosque Also worth visiting is the Derawar Mosque, which is 100 years old and is built with white marble stone. The Derawar mosque of marble is a thing of beauty, an exact replica of the Moti Masjid of the Red Fort of Delhi. |
