Re: ی ǁی یǟ ی ی ی 1 Attachment(s) PM agrees not to advance the clock ISLAMABAD: In a surprise move, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the National Assembly on Friday that if the house wanted he would reverse his governments decision to advance clocks by one hour from April 1 for seven months as an energy-saving measure. The assurance, in response to an opposition members demand, came shortly after Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf praised the internationally practised daylight-saving measure which he said daily saved 250 megawatts of electricity and helped reduce shortages after it was adopted last year. PML-N member Rana Tanvir Ahmed questioned the efficacy of the measure which he said would disturb peoples social life while they already suffered from frequent power cuts. It was not immediately clear whether the prime minister would take the matter back to his cabinet or he would just order the withdrawal of a notification issued on Thursday that called upon the general public to advance their watches and clocks for an hour to mitigate the power shortage. |
