I am the only being whose doom

No tongue would ask, no eye would mourn

I never caused a thought of dimness

A smile of bliss, since I was born

In secret pleasure, undisclosed tears

This changeful life has slipped away

As companions after eighteen years

As distinct in my prenatal days

There have been time I cannot conceal

There have been times when this was drear

When my sad soul forgot its arrogance

And longed for one to worship me here

But those were in the early blaze

Of feelings since cowed by care

And they have died so long ago

I hardly no deem they were

First melted off the hope of adolescence

Then visions rainbow swift withdrew

And then occurrence told me, genuineness

In iethal bosoms by no means grew

I was heartache enough to imagine mankind

All void, servile, artificial

But shoddier to hope to my own wits

And underneath the similar sleaze present
