The Punjab University Syndicate on Saturday gave Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) Director Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz a one-month deadline to personally appear before it to answer allegations proved against him by an inquiry committee. Taking a strong stance, the syndicate termed this as ‘the last chance’ to counter the allegations regarding irregularities in admissions and results, adding that otherwise, ex-parte proceedings would be initiated. The meeting was told that Dr Ahsan sent a fax message to the vice chancellor’s office mentioning that he was in hospital due to which he was unable to attend a personal hearing.
The meeting was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran in the Committee Room of the VC office. The syndicate members present in the meeting were CM’s Media Advisor MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir, Lahore Grammer School’s Ms Neelam, Higher Education Additional Secretary Zark Mirza, Hassan Nisar, Maulana Raghib Neemi, Rozina Aalam, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, Javed Sami and Shamaila Gill.
Meanwhile, a syndicate member told Daily Times that the former Faculty of Behavioral Sciences dean, as well as ICS Director Dr Mugheesud Din Sheikh, who was also accused in the same case, had refused to appear before the syndicate, claiming that the syndicate was not the competent authority to hear the case and that only the chief minister could initiate such a hearing. However, syndicate members rejected this claim when the notice was read during the meeting. The meeting also decided that ownership rights of the plots in Town 1 and Town 2 would be given to current and previous teachers and employees. In this regard, PU legal adviser Shahzad Shaukat was also called in and, upon his advice, all members of the meeting agreed to on the ownership rights.
