Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said on Thursday that the first information technology university in the country is going to establish in the province and special funds will be given for this purpose in the next fiscal year. He said that land for the Punjab Technology University (PTU) will be offered by the provincial government which would be controlled by an independent board for keeping the highest standard of computer education.
The chief minister was addressing a function after soft opening of the project of the PTU at the Arfa Karim Software Technology Park.
He further said the first campus of the PTU had been established on the sixth floor of Arfa Karim Software Technology Park and classes would begin from September this year.
He further mentioned that more than 1,000 boy and girl students would be get education in modern technologies in computer science in the campus while 6,000 students would study in the permanent campus of the PTU at Dera Rakh Chahal on Ring Road.
The chief minister said that educational expenditures of 500 talented students of PTU would be bear by the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. Permanent campus of the PTU would be established with the cooperation of Middle East Technical University of Turkey and the land area would be over 705 acres at Dera Rakh Chahal near Ring Road.
Provincial Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said the PTU would give a strong base for the national growth.
Higher Education Commission chairman Dr Javed Leghari said the formation of PTU would help to make developments in the IT sector.
