A LARGE number of students of Government Polytechnic College for Women, Jain Mandir, staged a protest demonstration on Friday over suspension of BCom and CCom classes at the college. The protesting students, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans and criticised the provincial government for suspending classes after shifting commerce education from TEVTA to Higher Education Department. The demo also caused traffic mess for quite some time.
The protestors said it was the only institute in the provincial metropolis which had been offering commerce education to female students. They alleged some people for their vested interest wanted to end commerce programmes at the college that’s why the college this year had not enrolled the students of BCom Part-I and CCom Part-I.
They regretted that the Chief Minister had no time to look into their matter, adding the CM was only paying attention to build well-established and well-furnished Danish Schools. They further said most of the students of the college belonged to poor families.
