BZU Multan Employees Protest for VC Appointment
Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) employees went on strike on Saturday against the delay in appointment of the new vice-chancellor.
The Employees Welfare Association, Academic Staff Association and Officers Welfare Association of the university announced the strike on Friday. According to the protesters, BZU controller and administration offices were closed for the first time in the history of the university on Friday and Saturday. University transport was suspended after the contractor suspended fuel supply over nonpayment of Rs10.5 million. Employees’ representatives Abdul Quddus Sohaib and others said that the VC had the financial powers to approve a new budget and employees would only get their salaries after orders from the VC. “Even the electricity bills are going unpaid because of this delay. This had prompted Wapda to levy surcharges,” Sohaib said. The employees said their protests would continue until the new VC was appointed |
